Er zijn verschillende manieren om een loopje te nemen met de waarheid. Kunstwerken die kijkers misleiden zijn op een andere manier onbetrouwbaar dan desinformatie-campagnes die door anti-democratische actoren op touw worden gezet. Centraal in deze lecture performance staat de vraag of een artistiek verantwoorde onbetrouwbaarheid vandaag nog een kritisch potentieel kan ontwikkelen in een politiek klimaat waarin autocratische regimes meer dan ooit profijt halen uit het vervagen van de grenzen tussen feit en fictie.

Toon Leën is beeldend kunstenaar. Recent werk omvat o.a. de lecture performances Homage to an Absent Pony (2023/2025), Homage to the Dash (2022/2025), A Big Basket of Apples (2022/2025), Sarah Bal, Student of Colours (2019), The Case of the Ridiculous Curator (2018), en de concert-lezing Correspondances mystérieuses (2019/2021) in samenwerking met pianist Lucas Blondeel. Zijn werk wordt vertegenwoordigd door Fred&Ferry Gallery in Antwerpen.

Lecture performance by Toon Leën, ca. 50 minuten, language: Dutch

There are different ways to play around with truth. Art works that mislead viewers are unreliable in another way than disinformation campaigns instigated by anti-democratic actors. Central in this lecture performance is the question whether an artistically responsible unreliability can still develop a critical potential today within a political climate where autocratic regimes profit more than ever from the fading of boundaries between fact and fiction.

Toon Leën is a visual artist. Recent works are the lecture performances Homage to an Absent Pony (2023/2025), Homage to the Dash (2022/2025), A Big Basket of Apples (2022/2025), Sarah Bal, Student of Colours (2019), The Case of the Ridiculous Curator (2018), and the concert-lecture Correspondances mystérieuses (2019/2021) in collaboration with the pianist Lucas Blondeel. His work is represented by Fred&Ferry Gallery in Antwerp.
