NL DINGEN DIE NIET VERKOPEN - ART TOURIST INFORMATION CENTER

Amber De Saeger en Alec De Bruyn brengen vanuit “Dingen die niet verkopen” de kleine kunstenaarsinitiatieven van Antwerpen in kaart. Deze “artist-run” plekken zijn heel divers in hun opzet, grootte en structuur, maar vormen samen een heel sterke waarde in het kunstenveld. Om de duizenden kunsttoeristen tijdens Antwerp Art Weekend de weg te wijzen naar deze ondergerepresenteerde ruimtes
en kunstenaars, neemt “Dingen die niet verkopen” de vorm aan van Art Tourist Information Center.
Verwacht parasitaire kaarten, alternatieve omzwervingsroutes, een verwarrende gift shop en alle toelichting over het programma van zowel de kunstruimtes als de Straatwerken braderie.

1 ANTWERP ART BOX

Antwerp Art Box is een kunstruimte-project door kunstenaar Erik Haemers, dat met beperkte middelen kunst en wat licht brengt in de stad. Het is een plaats voor experiment, een plek voor vrijheid zonder commerciële begrenzing en een plek voor “trial without error”.

Huidige expo: Pitch XL door Erik Haemers. Pitch XL werd speciaal uitgevoerd voor Antwerp Art Box en Antwerp Art Weekend 2025. Het werk reduceert alledaagse architectuur naar vereenvoudigde geometrie.

2 COMING SOON
Pelikaanstraat 98,

COMING SOON is drie maanden lang een popup ruimte voor experiment, radio en performance in het Centraal Station van Antwerpen. Als kleine plek van maar 12,5 vierkante meter, werken ze vaak met de openbare ruimte in hun evenementen en gebeurtenissen.

Huidige expo: Bent Von Bent - DRONKEN: THE ARCHANGEL OF ANTVERPiA. Een 24 uur lange screening van een videospelmenu, zonder de optie om het spel te spelen. Het zet je aan om te focusen op een “main menu” als onafhankelijke entiteit.

3 COMPOST
Turnhoutsebaan 77,

Compost is een tijdelijke expositieruimte. Ze streven ernaar flexibiliteit te behouden tegenover wat de ruimte zou kunnen zijn. Compost is een plek voor gesprek, een plaats om te delen, een ruimte om te blijven hangen of simpelweg te rusten. We verlangen ernaar om een grond te voorzien waar wortels kunnen schieten, waar iets kan groeien, waar ruimte is voor opkomende kunstenaars om de vruchten van hun werk te tonen. In het kort: om de vruchtbare aarde te vertegenwoordigen, die dik en overvloedig rondom ons ligt, en om die te vieren.

4 CAFE HET DEPOT

Café Het Depot herbergt het AARS-archief dat nauwlettend beheerd wordt door een schare aan docenten die er op regelmatige basis noest aan het arbeiden zijn. Uiteraard wensen zij bij deze werkzaamheden nooit gestoord te worden en is het café “meestal gesloten” zoals ook op de voordeur prijkt.

5 ERCOLA
Wolstraat 31,

De artistieke werking van de VZW ERCOLA is sinds de jaren ’70 vergroeid met het godshuis Somers in de Wolstraat, een historisch gebouwencomplex rond twee binnenplaatsen die dateren van de 17de eeuw. Het Godshuis werd in 1894 bij testament aan de stad geschonken op voorwaarde dat het steeds zou gebruikt worden voor sociale doeleinden. In het geklasseerde erfgoed wonen en werken sinds de jaren ’70 kunstenaars. Niet alleen werd de vzw Ercola door de jaren “de ziel van de buurt”, veel invloedrijke kunstenaars hebben hier verbleven en het hun thuis genoemd. Vandaag de dag is het nog steeds een werkend ateliergebouw voor bijna twintig kunstenaars in de leeftijd van 20 tot 80 jaar.

Huidige expo: Ercola neemt deel aan de Straatwerken Braderie en duwt een mobiel bad over de sporen in de Wolstraat, speelt hier en daar muziek en houdt open repetities op hun binnenkoer.

6 GALERIJKE MARIJKE
Lange Slachterijstraat 6,

Galerijke Marijke is een mini non-profit galerij in Antwerpen Noord. Het concept is 1 kunstenaar, 1 werk, 1 maand. Verder is het werk een maand lang dag en nacht te aanschouwen via het raam. Galerijke Marijke wil niet te serieus zijn en kunst op een laagdrempelige manier toegankelijk maken voor een breed publiek. Anderzijds wil het kunstenaars die (eerder) niet vertegenwoordigd zijn door een galerij de kans te geven hun werk te tonen via een mini solo expo. Als "anti-galerij" zet Galerijke Marijke zich af tegen de afstandelijke kunstinistituten, maar maakt het tegelijkertijd de brug naar. Het heeft geen winstbejag en wil eerder klein en ‘underground’ blijven.

7 PRESKOP

​​”Small place for big things”. Preskop is een ruimte voor artistieke projecten van kunstenaars die een samenwerking of artistieke dialoog willen / kunnen aangaan. De kunstenaars worden telkens ook curator van de ruimte en van hun expo.

Huidige expo: OOG VAN DE STORM is een geluids- en videoperformance, gebaseerd op een reeks storm studies van het trio Mathias Kuypers, Caroline Coolen en Stijn Wybouw.

8 SAMENSCHOOL

“De Samenschool methode ontwikkelen, dat is wat Samenschool doet.”
Samenchool onderzoekt hoe diverse artistieke praktijken kunnen bijdragen aan een collectief gevoel, zowel binnen als buiten onze vertrouwde omgeving. De uitvalsbasis: een zogenaamde kansarme buurt in oud Borgerhout: multicultureel en vol potentieel.

9 T-SPACE
Schoolstraat 27,

T-SPACE is een voormalig theehuis in overgang naar een plaats voor het maken en tonen van kunst. Om artistiek experiment aan en het verkennen van nieuwe vormen van collectieve communicatie aan te moedigen, willen we een plek maken voor diversiteit, non-conforme en gemarginaliseerde kunstenaars, vastgeroeste identiteit afwerpen en paden naar alternatieve expressie openen.

De kunstenaars die in T-SPACE resideren, presenteren hun werk in dialoog met de gelaagde geschiedenis van het gebouw. ​​Door de bestaande vloer fysiek te verwijderen, onthult de tentoonstelling verborgen sporen uit het verleden, waarbij elke kunstenaar een bijdrage levert binnen een gedeeld formaat: een lege tegel.

EN DINGEN DIE NIET VERKOPEN - ART TOURIST INFORMATION CENTER

From within Dingen die niet verkopen, Amber De Saeger and Alec De Bruyn are mapping the small artist initiatives of Antwerp. These artist-run spaces are very diverse in their mission, size and structure, but together they are of great value within the field of arts. To show the thousands of art tourists the way to these under-represented spaces that are not included in the Antwerp Art Weekend, “Dingen die niet verkopen” takes the shape of an Art Tourist Information Center. Expect parasitic maps, alternative routes to wander, a quite confusing gift shop and all information about the program of the Straatwerken braderie.

1 ANTWERP ART BOX

Antwerp Art Box is an art space project by artist Erik Haemers, bringing art and some light into the city with limited means. It is a place for experiment, a place of freedom without commercial limits, a place for trial without error. 

Current exhibition: Pitch XL by Erik Haemers.
Pitch xl was specially developed for the antwerp art box and antwerp art weekend 2025, reducing everyday architecture to its basic geometry.

2 COMING SOON

COMING SOON is a 3 month popup space for experiment, radio and performance in Central Station Antwerp. As a small location of only 12,5 square meters they often include the public space into their events and happenings.

Current exhibition: Bent Von Bent - DRONKEN: THE ARCHANGEL OF ANTVERPiA.
A 24H screening (26.05 - 30.05) of a video game main menu, without the option to play the game, redirecting you to focus on a main menu as an entity on its own.

3 COMPOST

Compost is a temporary exhibition space. They strive to maintain flexibility as to what the space could be. Compost is a place for conversation, a place for sharing, a space to linger or simply repose. We desire to provide ground for things to take root, to grow, and make room for emerging artists to share the fruit of their work. In short: To (re)present the fertile soil that lies thick and abundantly around us, and to celebrate it.

4 CAFE HET DEPOT

Café Het Depot accommodates the AARS archive, meticulously managed by a troop of educators who are toiling there on a regular basis. Naturally they wish for their labor to remain uninterrupted, and therefore the café remains “usually closed”, as is posed upon the front door.

5 ERCOLA
Wolstraat 31,

The artistic activity of the non-profit organisation ERCOLA has been intertwined with the Somers temple at the Wolstraat, a historical complex of buildings around two court yards, dating back to the 17th century. The “Godshuis” was donated by testament to the city in 1894, on the condition that it would always be used for social purposes. This site, classified as heritage, provides a place to live and work for artists since the seventies. Many influential artists have stayed here and called it their home. Today it is still a functioning workplace for almost twenty artists between the ages of 20 and 80.

Current Exhibition: Ercola is participating in the Straatwerken Braderie, moving a mobile bathtub on the tracks in the Wolstraat, playing music all around, and holding open rehearsals in their courtyard.

6 GALERIJKE MARIJKE

Galerijke Marijke is a mini non-profit gallery in North Antwerp. The concept is: 1 artist, 1 work, 1 month. Furthermore the work is visible through the window for one month during the day and night. Galerijke Marijke does not want to be too serious and make art accessible for a wide audience. On the other hand they want to create an opportunity for artists who aren’t represented by a gallery (yet) to show their work in a mini solo exhibition. As an “anti-gallery”, Galerijke Marijke defies the distant art institutes, but at the same time it creates a bridge toward. There is no aim for profit, and they prefer to remain small and “underground”.

7 PRESKOP

“Small place for big things”. Preskop is a space for artistic projects from artists who want or can start a new collaboration or artistic dialogue. The artists are at the same time the curator of the space and their own exhibition.

Samenschool researches how diverse artistic practices can contribute to a collective feeling, within as well as outside of our known environment. The base of operations: a so-called disadvantaged neighborhood in old Borgerhout: multicultural and full of potential.

9 T-SPACE

T-SPACE is a former teahouse in transition to a space for making and showing art. Encouraging artistic experimentation, and exploring new forms of collective communication, we want to make space for diversity, non-conforming and marginalized artists, rejecting fixed identities, and open pathways for alternative expressions.

The resident artists of T-SPACE come together to present their work in dialogue with the building’s layered history. By physically removing the existing floor, the exhibition reveals hidden traces of the past, with each artist contributing within a shared format: an empty tile.
